The TrafficMask feature and VPN

Answered John 20 days ago

Honored Aloha's Team,

First I had send the following message to team@alohabrowser.com, because of Aloha's Blog section where I found the relevant issue first, and also there the mentioned email address. On second thought this platform seemed to me the better and probably also the usual way for my message, and to start it as this new topic.

Message regarding the issue and my question:
After having updated my Aloha app to version 6.2.1 on my iPhone SE 2022 (in the mean time iOS version 17.7) and opening Aloha, it showed some sort of briefly announcement about its new 'TrafficMask' feature. Later on when I visited Aloha's Blog section within its app via 'About Aloha' and so on, I came accross the article titled: "Introducing TrafficMask: A Simple Guide for Everyone". When I opened and read the article it stated between the lines that: "It can be used with or without our free and unlimited VPN". Please see the relevant attached screenshot file.

Thereafter I explored Aloha's app to find the 'TrafficMask' feature and found it the following two ways: 1. via long tap on the VPN shield button where it shows up and can be set (enabled) as a 'VPN Country', 2. via the app's settings menu at the VPN section where it can be set as a 'VPN Country'. Please see the relevant attached two-in-one screenshot file.

If the TrafficMask feature is claimed to be working without (and before) a VPN than it leaves room for confusement, because it can only be set via the VPN shield or the VPN settings that treats and even names it as: 'VPN Country' while no VPN Country is involved nor should be involved. Such a navigation for setting the TrafficMask feature these both ways makes no sense.

Therefore I would like to know, how one can be sure that while the TrafficMask feaure is enabled via the VPN shield or the VPN settings as a VPN Country, it is actively operating as a non-vpn and non-vpn country when using Aloha's browser? And I also suggest that the current navigation for setting the TrafficMask feature will be made possible in the settings menu before having to enter the VPN section, or have it become availlable both ways (before entering the VPN section and within the VPN section).

Best regards,
John

Hi,

You are absolutely correct, the highlighted sentence is wrong, our team has been notified, and we will correct it asap. Please note that you can use only one server at a time, meaning if you use TrafficMask server, you cannot select any other server in addition, and your real IP address is not hidden.

Kind regards,

Aloha Team

Honored Aloha Team,

Thanks for the quick response.

Also thanks for clarifying Aloha's relevant blog article and its wrong sentence

Already knowing that the free TrafficMask server isn't a "real" VPN and doesn't hide one's IP address, I also like to know if its naming of "VPN Country" will still be legit or should get a different naming such as simply: "TrafficMask server" or the relevant country's/continent server, e.g.: "Canada server" or "Netherlands server" or "Europe server" etcetera?

Best regards,

John

It is indeed under different naming in the country list - 'TrafficMask'. That pretty much differentiates it from any other country servers. We will, however consider a pop up of some sort to inform users it does not hide your IP address 👍

Honored Aloha Team,

Thanks for the quick response.

Although the TrafficMask server is not a country it only makes sense that it resides in a country, but than again it is also not a VPN Country.

Another somewhat illogical thing is when one short tap on the VPN shield button and it gives the option to 'Choose Country' or 'Use Free Server', that when one select the 'Use Free Server' that it asks to setup a VPN profile while the TrafficMask is already a free non-VPN server that also doesn't require a VPN server. So the short or long tap on the VPN shield button for both different free servers (VPN server and TrafficMask server) leaves again room for confusement, and probably also annoyance if one does not have the intention nor wants to setup a free VPN profile for its related server from Aloha, but only wants to use Aloha's free TrafficMask server feature knowing and accepting its limitations compared to the free VPN server.

I guess that Aloha's features naming and app navigation dealing TrafficMask and VPN (free servers) could be foremost a matter of taste and feel, and food for debate. Well at least as for now I've shared some of my thoughts and experiences so far on the matter, and while using Aloha's app I will also continue exploring it. More future discoveries of its pros and cons will ofcourse further shape my thoughts and experienses for a better understanding of Aloha's app and its features.

Best regards,
John
