Removing the Downloader Will Drive Users Away

Solved Brian Johnson 21 days ago

This decision is a huge mistake that will drive users away. The built-in downloader is the only feature that truly sets Aloha apart. Take that away and there is no reason to choose it over Chrome, Firefox, or any other browser. Removing the one thing that made Aloha unique does not just alienate loyal users, it screams greed.

It is obvious this change was made to push people toward the premium version by limiting downloads, but that strategy will backfire. Instead of upgrading, users will leave. You have taken the feature that defined the app and turned it into a paywall. Users will move on, and with them goes Aloha’s relevance. If this policy remains in place, it will destroy user trust and will ultimately lead to the end of the app altogether.

Hi, Brian

We completely understand your frustration and truly appreciate your honesty. This was not an easy decision for us — we know how important the built-in downloader is to many of our users.

The truth is, we’ve run out of funds to continue maintaining and improving the browser at the same pace. Since Aloha doesn’t collect or sell user data (and we’re committed to keeping it that way), we don’t have the same revenue streams that many other browsers rely on. To keep paying our team and continue developing the app, we needed to find other ways to support its growth.

That said, downloading remains free, with a daily limit that resets every day — so you can still use the feature without a subscription, just with some limitations. Premium users simply get higher limits and additional features that help fund the project.

We know this change may feel disappointing, but it’s meant to help keep Aloha alive, secure, and independent — not to exploit our users. We’re doing our best to find a fair balance between keeping core features available and ensuring we can continue to improve the app.

Thank you for caring enough to share your thoughts — your feedback really helps us understand how these changes impact our community.

Kind regards,

Aloha Team

I was wondering for years how did you manage to make enough income without compromise yourself, i mean the secure and not shared or sold User Data and real VPN function.

Now after some minute Research and after the Rage i felt first when i saw that Banner (which after refresh, App close and open again, Phone restart etc) was permanent, now actually i can say it Out loud!!

Thank you for the unlimited "nonfiltered" Downloads the last some years, and from now on still thank you for the Limited but free and nonfiltered Downloads.

I would maybe suggest only one Thing! Many Users are angry. Of course, a known free function which put Aloha a long time ago on the top of the Most secure Browser List. And cheapest as well.

So If you could lower the price of your Premium and other packages so that the Low class can have a possible Access, If your Finance people for one second could think about to give that a chance, and

NOT LIKE NOW

Like they took away the unlimited Download function and yet left the Pay packages as they were, BECAUSE they Hope that maybe WE LOOSERS are dumb enough to accept the new Rules and Pay the price anyway, so that the App can make enough or maybe more than needed income.

DON'T BE TOO GREEDY!! PLEASE!!

lower the prices and you will loose less member and almost certain you will make more income!!

If you try and i am right at least write me.. Like thanks Bro or maybe send some goods.. as a thank you..

Adding a download limit is going to kill your app. Ive been a user of Aloha for YEARS and am already looking for an alternative. Putting the one thing about your app that people liked behind a paywall has to be the stupidest thing anyone can do. Which money hungry executive recommended this?

Hi, Unfortunately, we’ve been getting banned from numerous sites because free users (who make up over 99% of our user base) were downloading 10+ videos a day. This not only affects the experience for everyone but also creates major development and legal challenges for our team. Limiting downloads helps us protect access for all users while keeping the app sustainable for the long term and fair to those who support us with a paid plan.
