SMB / NAS Support for Local Network File Access

Completed Rm Impact 2 months ago

Hi Aloha team,

I’d love to request support for local network storage access directly inside Aloha Browser.

Something similar to SMB/NAS/WebDAV support where users could connect to devices on their home Wi-Fi network such as:

  • Windows shared folders (SMB)
  • NAS devices
  • Local media servers
  • PCs hosting files, videos, and photos

I feel this would fit perfectly within the existing Files tab on mobile.

For example:

Files > "+" > "Add Server" > Enter IP/address and optional username/password > Connect

Once connected, the server could appear directly inside the native Aloha file manager, similar to a normal folder but using a server icon instead.

This would allow users to:

  • Browse local network folders
  • Stream videos directly in-browser
  • Access photos/files from a PC or NAS
  • Connect to SMB shares via local IP
  • Easily manage home media libraries

For example:

smb://192.168.x.x

or simple automatic local network discovery support.

Aloha already has excellent download management and media playback features, so adding local network storage support would make it feel like a complete all-in-one media and file browser.

I think this would especially appeal to users with home servers, NAS devices, shared PCs, Jellyfin/Plex setups, or large local media libraries.

I’ve also been a premium user for years and genuinely love the browser, especially the built-in VPN, downloads, and overall media experience. I think this feature would fit really well into the app.

Thanks!
