Why cant I make a voice call or video call on Snapchat when I have my VPN set to on demand

Every time someone calls me off of Snapchat whether it is the voice call or video call as long as my VPN is set to on demand the call cannot connect and it just canceled the call regardless if someone calls me or I call them
